It’s been a busy year for Weyburn Soccer Association and they are planning on presenting the year that was, and the plans for next year, at their upcoming annual general meeting.
“Weyburn Soccer is hosting our annual AGM and we want you to be a part of it,” said President of Weyburn Soccer Association Jason Roy. “We're inviting everyone in the community to attend to see how our organization operates. This is a great opportunity to learn our goals and our plans for the future.”
He added that at the AGM they will also be looking for and accepting new board members.
“By joining the board, you can have a direct impact on the future of soccer in Weyburn, whether you have a background in sports, business, or just a love for the game. Your unique perspective can help us continue to grow and improve,” he said. “If you are interested in making a difference, please consider putting your name forward for a position. We welcome anyone with fresh ideas and a desire to contribute. The date will be September 11th, 2025 at 7 p.m. at the Weyburn R.M. Community Room. That's 1633 First Avenue Northeast.”
He added that there has been a bit of confusion around their announcement of board member openings. He said that while he plans on staying on as president for at least one more term, these positions are opening up to elections.
“We do have positions opening. One being president, the vice president, sponsorship, and then we also have some subcommittees, a referee coordinator, grassroots coordinator, and a female development coordinator. And the reason that the positions are available is they're up for election. I'm going to let my name stand for president for at least one more term anyway."
He noted that there is a lot to highlight at this years AGM, including Weyburn Soccer becoming part of league play out of Regina and teaming up with the Celtics our of Scotland.
“We had three coaches this year from Glasgow, Scotland,” he said. “We had over 80 kids in our camp. It was another great thing, even for our community. It was just phenomenal.”
He also noted that, outside of the upcoming AGM, they are also in need of some more coaches, particularly in the U9 and U11 girls category. Anyone willing to volunteer can contact Tyler at wsatechdirector@sasktel.net.
