The Weyburn Independent Riders held the annual Toy Run for the Weyburn Salvation Army on Saturday, with 41 bikers in all carrying donated toys on their bikes as well as in a Santa-style sleigh, from Legacy Park Elementary School to River Park.

"[Laurie Norman] sits at Walmart for two days, and people fill the sleigh, and then all the bikers come from out of town, and they all have them strapped on their bikes, too. They do a parade through the city, and then they bring them all back here," shared Community Ministries Worker Nicole Strickland.

She said she'd like more people in the coming years to enjoy the display of this generous initiative taken on annually by motorcycle enthusiasts.

"A lot of cities, like Moose Jaw, especially, they said that people line the streets. I don't know how to get the word out there better, because it's quite cool to watch, but we've never had that kind of thing [here]."

"We have a few people that go out there and know what's coming and watch, but it would be nice if more people were out watching."

Strickland said they also raised monetary donations totaling $465. The toys will be part of the Salvation Army's Christmas assistance program's Toy Store, which enables parents to choose a gift for their child to find under the tree on Christmas.
