The Airdrie Pickleball Club has been awarded a $25,000 grant to expand accessibility for Alberta families.
"This funding initiative aims to address affordability and accessibility challenges for children and families seeking opportunities in sport, physical activity, and recreation across Alberta," shared the club in a press release.
According to the club, the grant will help the Airdrie Pickleball Club break down financial barriers and make the sport more accessible, allowing more local kids and families to get involved in this fast-growing activity. Funding will go toward subsidizing youth programs, providing free or low-cost clinics, purchasing equipment, and expanding facilities to welcome new players.
“We are incredibly grateful to the Alberta Government for recognizing the importance of creating accessible recreational opportunities,” said Kina Martin, President of the Airdrie Pickleball Club. “This grant will allow us to expand our existing Hotshots program we offered last summer, to Airdrie’s youth. We will be posting more information on dates and events on our website at www.airdriepickleball.com.”
Pickleball, a blend of tennis, badminton, and table tennis, is known for its accessibility and popularity among players of all ages and abilities. With funding from the Every Kid Can Play Grant, the Airdrie Pickleball Club aims to promote inclusivity and inspire Alberta youth and their families to stay active and engaged.
The club explained that the Every Kid Can Play Grant reflects the Alberta Government’s dedication to promoting physical activity and recreational inclusivity across the province. By supporting local organizations like the Airdrie Pickleball Club, the program is making a meaningful impact in communities by ensuring that cost is not a barrier to participation.
