It was a busy weekend of football, with the WCS Eagles playing under the lights at home Friday, and the U14 Young Fellow Falcons in Estevan Saturday.

Friday night, the Eagles would face the Yorkton Raiders at Brent Allin Field. There, they came away with a 13-11 win to improve to 1-1 on the season.

Weyburn opened the scoring when quarterback Cooper Knox connected with Tace Odima for a 70-yard touchdown pass. Yorkton would respond with a rouge and a field goal to make it 6-4 at halftime.

In the second half, the defences would dominate until late in the fourth quarter. The Eagles would march down the field with a late drive, and Nash Hignett capped it off by punching it in from a yard out to make it 13-4. The Raiders, though, would put together a drive of their own, highlighted by a trick play that resulted in a touchdown, to make it 13-11.

The WCS defence, though, would hold the line, and the Eagles came away with the win.

The next game for the WCS Eagles will be Saturday, when they host Greenall at Darold Kot Field, with the game starting at 1 p.m.

The U14 Young Fellow Falcons would find themselves on the right side of a lopsided scoreboard in Estevan, helping their coach avoid an embarrassing situation. They would see the defence score four majors, and the offence three, as they routed the Estevan Oilers 46-0.

The embarrassing situation?

The two teams started a friendly wager between the coaches that both sides would like to see become an annual tradition. The two teams, who play a home-and-home each year, will see the head coach of the losing team in the first game have to wear the opposing team’s jersey the following weekend.

On the offensive side of the ball, Landon Leroux would score two touchdowns, and Jud Vennard would add one more. Dierks Schneider would score on a 2-point conversion.

On the defensive side of the ball, Zion Swale led the way with a blocked punt he would pick up and take to the house for a touchdown. Then, later in the game, he would intercept a pass and return it for a touchdown. Cale Porter and Mattix Eckel would also record pick-sixes in the game.

The two teams will meet for the rematch this coming Saturday at Brent Allin Field, with the Estevan coach in Falcons’ colours. The game starts at 5:30 p.m.
