Swift Current’s Prairie Flint came alive with music, film, and community spirit as the shop hosted the kickoff party for Silver Scream, a project by filmmaker Devon Oman and Dead Prairie Productions.

Owner Kayla Weston was thrilled to welcome the community to enjoy live performances and celebrate the film’s Saskatchewan roots.

“We’ve got some of the bands that are showcased in the film and on the soundtrack,” Weston shared ahead of last Saturday's event. “Tombstone Whiskey and Birthday Cake Trebuchet will each be doing a 45-minute set. We’ve also got free cake and merch tables set up, so it should be a lot of fun.”

For Weston, this event was inspiring, as it marked the first time she has hosted a full band in the space.

“I am so pumped,” she said with a laugh. “I’m a little nervous about eardrums, but it’ll be fine. It’s just really nice to showcase local artists from around Swift and across Saskatchewan, and Devon does such a great job of featuring them in his films.”

Prairie Flint held the kickoff event on Saturday before a successful first showing of Silver Scream that night.
