The 2025 Canada Summer Games were held from August 8 to 25, 2025, in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, and Moose Jaw-area athletes delivered standout performances in softball, athletics, cycling, and box lacrosse.
Softball Standouts
Pitcher Ava Unser played a key role in Saskatchewan’s softball campaign. She threw 3.2 innings in a win over Nova Scotia, striking out three batters and keeping the opposition in check. In a later matchup against Quebec, Unser pitched 1.1 innings, allowing just two runs on three hits.
Blake Maltais, playing right field, was a consistent offensive threat. She went 2-for-4 with four RBIs in a decisive win over PEI and added another hit in the final game against the same team to place 8th overall.
Track & Field
Katie Rogers, representing Riversdale Athletics Club, qualified for the medal heat in the women’s 1500m with a time of 4:42.12. In the final, she placed eighth overall, improving her time to 4:34.12. Rogers also earned a fourth-place finish in the 5000m, narrowly missing the podium but proving herself as one of the top distance runners in the field.
Assiniboia's Bradyn Giraudier won a bronze medal running in the men's Special Olympics 100 metre medal heat with a time of 12.09 to finish third.
Bradyn's brother, Kyle, competed in the consolation heat and won with a time of 12.65, finishing ninth overall in the men's Special Olympics 100 metres.
Cycling
Cyclist Marcus Capili competed in three events: the road race, time trial, and criterium. He placed 27th in the road race and recorded a time of 37:27.99 in the time trial. Known for his dual-sport training regimen, Capili dedicates over 15 hours a week to his craft and has ambitions to join a European trade team next season.
Box Lacrosse
Women’s Division
Kyler Pladson contributed two goals during the tournament, including one in a 5–1 win over New Brunswick. Her aggressive play and leadership on the floor were instrumental in Saskatchewan’s early success, though the team fell short in the quarterfinals against Ontario.
Men’s Division
Kashton Smith was a standout performer, scoring three goals and five assists in a dominant win over PEI. He added two goals and two assists in subsequent victories over Manitoba and New Brunswick, solidifying his role as a key playmaker.
Chase Folk also made valuable contributions, scoring in the PEI game and providing consistent support throughout the tournament.
