Humboldt residents will have a chance to have a final say in a proposal to assign a plot of land just east of Caleb Village on Ogilvie Avenue to residential construction. As part of the process to consider a bylaw to amend the City of Humboldt Official Community Plan Bylaw No 03/2016 in an effort to have the land assigned as residential.
The plot is currently listed as “Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces” and is currently used primarily as a gravel parking lot for events at Glenn Hall Park.
City Council has debated the move for some time now and has previously heard from residents about the potential for a multi-unit residential complex at the site. The Council previously passed a bylaw clearing the sale of the property. Now the update to the Community Plan Bylaw needs to go ahead.
Some residents previously expressed concerns about maintaining parking for sporting events, while some residents of Caleb Village were worried about increased traffic flow and noise with a residential development.
Council will be considering the bylaw amendment at its regular meeting on September 22. Any questions or concerns can be forwarded to Council or presented as part of the public hearing. The City advises using one of the following:
