The Saskatchewan Economic Development Alliance began a pilot project to develop Community Safety and Wellbeing Plans involving three communities, that has now grown to include five more communities including Weyburn. The city has launched a survey to gain insight to what gaps and risks the community observes in Weyburn.
Weyburn City Councillor Kellie Sidloski says the survey results will be assessed by a committee made up of various community members. Weyburn’s committee is diverse, including representation from the Weyburn Fire Department, Weyburn Police Service, the Canadian Mental Health Association, Envision Counselling and Support Centre, the school board, and the City of Weyburn.
“The purpose of the survey is to identify gaps and risks within the community and see how we can proactively try and build a plan to try and address these.”
"The results will be reviewed by the committee, and we will comb through and identify the risks. There seems to be common threads from some of the responses we've already had and from there we will try and build a strong and meaningful plan to address these, with what we have control over, and what we think that we can do within our community.”
Sidloski explains that the survey is not exclusive to Weyburn residents, saying that more responses will give them a more comprehensive view of what needs to be addressed in the community.
“We are looking for everyone and anyone. We're looking for youth, we're looking for seniors, we're looking for working, non-working, anyone. The more information and data that we can collect, the more we can put together a strong plan that covers everyone.”
The survey has been posted on the City of Weyburn website and their social media pages. The deadline, originally set for earlier this summer, has been extended to this Friday, September 12th at 12 p.m.
