Post-Secondary Scholarships for students of Southeast College will have another $20,000 available to help fund their education, thanks to the 18 teams participating in the annual Swing for Scholarships Golf Tournament held on Friday at the Weyburn Golf Club.
"The day could have been a smidge warmer, but the sun ended up coming out in the afternoon and it was a fantastic day," shared Sheena Onrait, Vice President of Communications and Strategic Enrolment with Southeast College.
While the tournament raised $10,000, the funds are matched through the Ministry of Advanced Education through the Saskatchewan Innovation and Opportunity Scholarship program to create $20,000 in post-secondary student scholarships.
Onrait said this is an increase from last year's tournament.
"We had more teams golf this year, which is always makes for a more fun event when you've got lots of folks milling around and doing all the fun skill testing holes we had, and the challenges we did, and then there also was a live auction and a 50/50 as well, so the more people you have, the more money you're able to convert into those types of events as well, so this was definitely over par from last year."
She said the Scholarship and Bursary funds were revamped last year for Southeast College.
"Our bursaries are now awarded in February of each year so that they're given to the students when they need them the most, when they're still going to school, and then our scholarships are awarded at graduation time. So we try to make sure that it's a split between the bursaries and the scholarships, but all this money goes towards being able to provide those bursaries and scholarships to students."
Onrait thanked the sponsors, "We had our Drive for Education sponsors, which was JZ Data, Weyburn Credit Union, Weyburn Dodge, Prairie Sky Co-op, our Safe Ride with Whitecap Resources, golf cart sponsors, South Country Equipment, and our meal sponsors, T&C Family Restaurant and Dallas Pizza, and then of course we had numerous prize sponsors, so many to mention. Thank you to all those prize sponsors."

"The teams that come in and participate and buy the string and buy the mulligans and the 50/50s and participate in the live auction and the raffle prizes, we couldn't do this without the teams, and we really, really appreciate the support, and we look forward to hosting an even bigger tournament again next year."
The Tournament Low Score/Winning Team was the City of Estevan. The Tournament Most Honest Score/High Score was the Pragnel and Wireless Age Team; the Best Dressed Team was Jessica Gorgerat and team.
The live auction raised over $1,000, the 50/50 winner took home $550, and other events highlighted that day were the Marshmallow Hole challenge, the longest drive winner, the Happy Gilmore Skill Hole, and a fun and entertaining limbo challenge.
