It likely won’t be a record breaker, but this week is shaping up to be a pleasant one around Humboldt.

After a cold front brought cooler weather at the end of last week, temperatures are climbing back into the high 20s.

Crawford Luke, Meteorologist with Environment Canada, says the trend will continue.

“Looks like we're going to hang on to these mild temperatures for a while yet.”

He noted that while some moisture could arrive at the end of the week, temperatures should remain steady.

“We're still hanging on to temperatures that are much warmer than normal.”

For the most part, Luke says it will be an enjoyable end to the summer season.

“It looks like this warm pattern is here to stay for at least another week or two, even though we might get unsettled and have a few rainy days mixed in with the sunny days.”

The average high for this time of year is 18°C.

Luke pointed out that Saskatchewan isn’t the only place seeing above-normal temperatures, as the trend has developed across the country.

“The fall season is warming pretty fast, and September in particular is the month that's warmed the most out of any month of the year.”

He added, “It seems like there has kind of been this trend towards summer kind of lingering into September more and more over the last few decades.”

Afternoons aren’t the only part of the day staying warmth. Evening lows are expected to remain in the double digits, a welcome change after last week’s brush with frost. Luke explained that humidity plays a role.

“With the more humid air masses, the overnight lows tend to be a bit warmer.”

Most records for this week in the area are around 30°C, so new ones likely won’t be set—but it will still be warmer than usual.
