Carnie's Comments

He's in his hometown of Edmonton this week for a two-day session with his Liberal caucus in anticipation of the fall sitting of Parliament.

Prime Minister Mark Carney and his colleagues will focus on the upcoming federal budget, launching some major industrial projects and address the economic challenges we're all facing.

And, if he's seen the latest polls, the Prime Minister will be walking with some extra jump in his step.

Results from a Leger / Postmedia poll, released this week, shows 50% of Canadians believe Conservative leader Pierre Poilievre's chances of beating Carney in the next federal election are "poor". Only 36% believe he has a "good chance" of winning and 18% of Conservative supporters have doubts Poilievre can win.

Carney's Liberals lead the Conservatives in popularity by 9 percentage points right now.

Another recent poll of swing voters found 79% believe Carney is calm and steady, 77% say he avoids conflict and 70% say he communicates clearly.

I've said it before - I'm a whole lot more comfortable with Prime Minister Carney in charge than I was with his predecessor.
