The 16th annual GoGreen event will be taking over Swift Current this Friday, beautifying the community by planting an additional 463 trees, perennials, and shrubs across a dozen locations.
Local business, Stark & Marsh, has partnered with the City of Swift Current and Innovation Federal Credit Union for the one-day event, complete with a barbecue lunch, along with live music at Market Square.
Daniel Johnson, chief executive officer for the Innovation Federal Credit Union, shared that this is Innovation Federal Credit Union's eighth year as an event partner.
"We really appreciate being a part of this initiative put on by Stark & Marsh," he said. "The barbecue is free for volunteers, but we do ask the public to provide a $10 donation, and those proceeds are going to the Southwest Facility Foundation."
The first GoGreen shift runs from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while lunch takes place from 12:00 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., and the second shift is from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Martin Cooling, parks superintendent for the City of Swift Current, said, "To date, we've planted just over 4,500 trees and shrubs, and typically around 100 people are what we see on that day."
This year's GoGreen sites include;
- Elmwood Park,
- Riverside Park,
- Kinetic Park,
- The City Ball Diamonds,
- Hillcrest Cemetery,
- The RBC Planter Bed,
- North of the Trans Canada Highway,
