The Weyburn Police Service attended the scene of a two-vehicle collision last Thursday, when a driver failed to stop at the red light at the intersection of First Avenue and Government Road.

Deputy Chief Shane St. John says the incident was similar to an accident the week prior.

“A person went through a red light, striking another vehicle. Both vehicles again needed to be towed, and there were no injuries, but it was almost identical to the one we had last week.”

St. John says the similar incidents are simply coincidental, with no other links between the two accidents. The investigations were also dissimilar in investigation, as the first utilized dash cam footage, while Thursday’s matter saw the driver simply take accountability.

However, he explains that they do appreciate eyewitness accounts in these investigations as well.

“This one, the person knew that they went through the red light as well. So, it wasn't really any argument, but it's nice to get witnesses that see the actual accident because it helps to find out who's at fault.”

“Sometimes it's nice if you have witnesses like other vehicles in the intersection, they can say, ‘yeah, the light was red, this person had the green’. That really helps because sometimes if you don't have that, both drivers feel they're in the right.”

The at-fault driver was charged under the Traffic Safety Act for failing to stop at a red light.
