The newly opened Pembina Valley Hospice House in Winkler is now welcoming patients, offering a six-bed facility dedicated to providing compassionate end-of-life care.
“This is the six-bed capacity house that we have,” said Operations Manager Bryan Collantes. “We cater to hospice care, like comfort care, with honour and dignity that we give care to them.”
The home was created in response to a shortage of hospice spaces across Manitoba noted financial officer Vicki Riu. “Some people at the end of life they don’t have a bed because the hospital is full. So we are trying to open this one to address this issue.”

The facility’s motto, "Honouring life with comfort and dignity," guides its approach to care. Staff provide 24/7 support, assistance with activities of daily living, and access to specialized equipment such as lifts and grooming aids to ensure comfort. A certified chef also prepares meals for residents.
Collantes emphasized the vision of the Hospice House: “We work compassionately and proudly alongside our patients and their families. We welcome them if they ever have the time to see their family member, give them the comfort that they need.”
The Pembina Valley Hospice House is now open and accepting clients. Families can connect with the organization directly through email, phone, or on the website for more information.
