The Humboldt Collegiate Institute (HCI) Mohawks will be playing under the lights on Friday night, when they host the Delisle Rebels in their annual primetime battle under the temporary lights situated at Glenn Hall Park.

A local group is working towards having all of the Mohawk football games along with other sports under the brights.

The Glenn Hall Park Lighting project began fundraising earlier this year as the working towards upgrades to field including lights and a new score board.

On Wednesday, the group held a fundraising barbecue inside of the HCI parking lot.

President Heather Rintoul says Wednesday marked the kickoff for their fundraising efforts.

She says the group hopes to complete the fundraising for the project by next summer, so the lights can be installed at Glenn Hall Park for the 2026 Mohawk football season.

Rintoul added that they’re planning to hold other fundraisers in the coming months to help generate the funds needed.

“We're hoping to do co-op gift cards and in the new year we'll have a trip of the month. So, we’re excited about that.”

The opportunity to move all the Mohawk games to the evening benefits the entire community, including both fans and players says Rintoul.

“It's just a nice feature for people who are working. You can have more community come out and watch when you can have it a little bit later, whether it's football, soccer, utilizing the track.”

Already armed with strong support, Rintoul welcomes any further help the community if anyone is looking to contribute to adding lights at Glenn Hall Park.

“We have a lot of great community business members on board already, whether it's donating their time and efforts or donations. So we love to have anybody else on board, ideas, helping at our events, anything like that.”

If anyone is interested in contributing to the project, they’re welcome to contact Rintoul or other committee members.
