It was a busy morning for members of the Weyburn Police Service on Saturday. Complaints came in from a local drinking establishment in the early hours of the day, reporting yelling and screaming.
Deputy Police Chief Shane St. John says officers arrived to find a crowd of people outside of the building.
“They were not sure if it was fighting or what was happening, police just went, dispersed the crowd, and got everyone moving home. One adult male was found very, very intoxicated, not able to care for himself, had no one to care for him. So, he was placed in cells until sober.”
No charges were laid in this matter; however, a later incident yielded different results.
Another noise complaint came in the same morning sending officers to an apartment building. St. John says that upon arrival, they saw a vehicle driving away from the scene.
“They stopped that vehicle because maybe they were part of that noise or maybe they heard something. And when they did pull that vehicle over, that person was found to be impaired by alcohol.”
The driver failed the approved alcohol screening device and was arrested for driving impaired. The woman was brought to the Weyburn Police Service where she failed the breathalyzer test and was charged accordioning before being released on conditions.
St. John explains that incidents associated with impairment can happen any time, but as demonstrated on Saturday, they’re more common in the early morning hours.
He also takes the opportunity to remind the public to report disruptive noises to police and they will investigate it.
"If you hear loud noises, make sure you call us if it's disturbing you."
