The Weyburn Police Service took to Facebook this week issuing a reminder to local dog owners. They report a number of calls regarding loose dogs running at large, noting that while many local dogs are friendly, there were some incidents where this was not the case.
Deputy Chief Shane St. John adds that even friendly dogs can be unpredictable.
“Always have your dog in that leash. You always think your dog might be behaving, but he might see another animal or another dog or cat for that matter and take off after it. You can never really know what your animal is going to do.”
“We do have a bylaw that your dog should be on leash, so make sure your dog isn't at large.”
The WPS advises pet owners to ensure their gates and fences are secure as well as keeping pets on leash when in public. Animals at large are a risk to the safety of pedestrians and other animals, as well as their own well-being.
