A Cochrane woman is facing multiple charges after RCMP seized drugs and firearms during a search of a home in the town’s Heritage Hills neighbourhood.
The Cochrane RCMP Crime Reduction Unit launched an investigation into suspected drug trafficking earlier this month. On Sept. 10, officers executed a search warrant at a residence where they found cocaine packaged for distribution, along with two firearms — including a prohibited pink .22-calibre rifle.
Kristy Rinas, 42, of Cochrane, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking, unsafe storage of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm and unlawful possession of a prohibited firearm.
Rinas was held for a judicial interim hearing before being released. She is scheduled to appear in the Alberta Court of Justice in Cochrane on Sept. 23.
“Our officers will continue to investigate and disrupt drug trafficking in the town of Cochrane,” said Insp. Dave Brunner, commanding officer of Cochrane RCMP. “These efforts are crucial to keeping illegal firearms and drugs out of our community.”
