A major milestone is approaching for the significant construction project on Highway 39 near Weyburn. According to the latest Weekly Orange Zone Construction Update from the Ministry of Highways, released Friday morning, paving on the new roundabout and twinned highway segment is expected to begin Monday, weather permitting.
The $29 million project, which began in February, includes the twinning of 5.8 kilometres of Highway 39 and the construction of a new roundabout at the intersection with Highway 13. Crews are currently finalizing concrete work at the roundabout while placing and packing sand and gravel for the new twinned lanes in preparation for the upcoming paving.
The entire project is scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
“As autumn moves forward with school and other activities resuming, highway construction also continues progressing to get as much road work completed as possible this season,” said Highways Minister David Marit in the release. “That is why it is so important for all motorists to please continue to be cautious and alert when approaching any construction.”
In other local construction news, a $1.4 million project to install culverts on Highways 2 and 35 near West Poplar, Weyburn, and Francis is wrapping up. The ministry has confirmed this project is complete and has been removed from the weekly construction update.
As work continues across the province, the Ministry of Highways reminds all drivers to slow down and obey all signs and flag persons in the Orange Zone to ensure the safety of both workers and motorists.
