Clifton’s No Frills in Estevan delivered 30 cases of bananas to schools in the city on September 11, part of a growing effort by the store to support local education and community wellness.
“We’ve had all kinds of initiatives come up this year,” said Clifton Krobel, owner of Clifton’s No Frills. “This one just came about, last week I was thinking of it. You know, school is in again, and I thought what a great way to support the community by delivering a bunch of bananas to all the elementary schools here.”
The store’s commitment to community outreach has included other efforts as well, such as supplying hot dogs for Pleasantdale School’s welcome-back BBQ.
“In my mind, when businesses step up to support schools, we send a message of unity and care for one another,” Krobel said. “Hopefully this fosters community pride and maybe inspires other local businesses and even residents to get involved in the community. Whether it’s through donations, volunteering, or supporting local events.”
The banana delivery was no small feat.
“We delivered 30 cases of bananas. Five cases is 220 lbs, so it’s a pretty big number in pounds for how many bananas we delivered yesterday,” he said.
