The deadline for entertainers to apply to perform at the 44th annual Weyburn Communithon Is October 1st.

Entertainment Committee Chair Korryn Kubashek said they have more spots to fill this year due to the hours being expanded for the annual telethon, which broadcasts live from the Weyburn Legion beginning at 8 a.m. on October 24th and concludes at 2 p.m. on Saturday, October 25th.

"Summer's done, and we're getting back into the full swing of school, and Communithon deadline is coming up shortly, so we're just sending out a reminder for people to get their application forms in. We're excited to have another year back home in Weyburn and are looking forward to new and old entertainment. We have lots of spots to fill."

As long as it's family-friendly, they welcome all kinds of entertainment from performers of all ages at this ultra-Weyburn multicultural event.

"We've had dancers. We've had singers. We've had clown acts before. We're pretty much open to anything for entertainment-wise. It is a family show, so we do ask that it's family-oriented, but it's any kind of entertainment. There are some acts out there that we've had before that we've never seen again."

She said the Senior Dance Hour, Office Olympics, and the Air Band Competition are just some of the group entertainment events planned for this year. They'll also have some new / throwback events, including skits, car races, and more.

"On Saturday afternoon, we're doing the 'The Weymazing Race' finale live at the event, and that will hopefully bring in a lot of audience members as well, so trying to keep it high energy this year."

Kubashek emphasized that this live telethon is free to attend for audience members, and it's also free for entertainers to get their time to shine.

"It is unbelievable the talent we have in Weyburn. From doing this for many years, I've learned so many people in this city are so talented and not only in the city. We have people that have come from Forget and stuff as well. So it's not just local Weyburn, it's anywhere in the area that would like to come in and perform."

Communithon benefits the seven local non-profit organization, which means performing is also helping out the local agencies.

"All it takes is five minutes of going on to our website, filling out the 'apply to entertain' form, and it's fun. We have so many laughs, and it's just amazing to see some of the local talent here and to see some of these artists go on to further careers as well."

"We're not looking for professionals. We're looking for anybody who just wants to get out there and have a good time, that's all Communithon is about is raising money and keeping things fun. It's not a major concert or anything. We've had some people come and be so nervous, and I sit backstage with them and talk with them, and once they get out there, they kind of give me that look like 'oh my goodness', and then the music starts, and they're off and running, so everybody can do it. It's fun."

"It's not like we have a huge crowd all the time, so I think that's more relaxing once they get there and see, but then as committee members, we want the whole place packed. We want everybody to see everybody. But it's it's nice. It's small. It's quaint. It's all just for fun, so the more people that can come out and either watch or entertain us, the better."

Kubashek added another important reason they have a deadline of October 1st is because they release an official performer schedule a couple of weeks in advance, so that people know when to watch for their favourite acts.
