The Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) responded to two separate structure fires early Saturday morning.
Midwinter Avenue fire
At 5:33 a.m., crews were called to a two-storey home in the 200 block of Midwinter Avenue. Heavy smoke and flames were visible when firefighters arrived.
An interior fire attack brought the blaze under control by 6:54 a.m. A search confirmed no one was inside the home, and no injuries were reported.
The house sustained significant smoke, fire and water damage. Investigators have not released a cause or damage estimate.

Ellice Avenue fire
Just hours earlier, at 2:42 a.m., WFPS responded to a fire at a vacant, boarded-up commercial building in the 600 block of Ellice Avenue.
Police officers arrived before firefighters and used extinguishers to slow the flames on the building’s exterior.
Fire crews then extinguished the fire with hose lines.
No one was found inside and no injuries were reported.
The cause remains under investigation and damage estimates are not available.
