Estevan residents had the chance to brighten someone’s day during the Community Wellness Group’s “Ripple of Kindness” event, held yesterday at the Estevan Public Youth Centre (EPYC). Originally planned outdoors, the event was moved indoors due to rainy weather.
Participants were invited to paint rocks and create cards with uplifting messages, which could then be left in random places for others to find. Lisa Willetts, a team builder with the Community Wellness Committee, explained the idea behind the event: “The goal here is to paint a rock with maybe a little message of kindness on it, do a card with a message of kindness, and then put it somewhere random where somebody who wasn't expecting it will find it because everybody can use a little kindness.”
The event included support from a volunteer with Envision Counselling and the director of EPYC, helping to ensure participants had everything they needed. Willetts said the location change did not dampen spirits. “Absolutely. I think it didn’t hurt us by moving the location,” she noted.
Participation was strong, with attendees enjoying the creative activity. Willetts confirmed it’s an initiative they hope to repeat in the future.
Community members are encouraged to keep an eye out around town for the painted rocks and cards, spreading the Ripple of Kindness one discovery at a time.
