The Town of Crossfield says the community’s boil water advisory has been cancelled.
“We are pleased to announce the Boil Water Advisory has been cancelled. Residents and businesses are welcome to use their water as normal,” the town said in a public update on Sunday afternoon.
The advisory was first issued Thursday after a water main break during a repair near the Public Works Shop on Laut Avenue. The town said excavation exposed an issue with the decades-old original installation that caused the connection to separate. The break was contained quickly and service restored, though some residents reported reduced pressure.
During the advisory, potable water had been made available at the Community Centre on Mountain Avenue. Officials asked residents to use only the amounts needed for immediate household needs so supply could be shared fairly. The town also thanked the City of Airdrie for its support in providing safe water.
On Friday, Crossfield eased restrictions from Level 2 to the standard Level 1, which limits outdoor watering to even-numbered addresses on even calendar days and odd-numbered addresses on odd days.
Alberta Health Services says residents should follow steps to flush, clean and sanitize areas that came into contact with water after the advisory ends.
AHS guidance includes:
-
Flush all water-using fixtures by running hot and cold taps for five minutes. For large or multi-storey buildings, maintenance staff should begin on the lowest floor and work up.
-
Drain, flush, clean and disinfect equipment with water line connections, such as refrigerator water and ice dispensers, following manufacturer instructions.
-
Follow manufacturer directions for flushing, cleaning and sanitizing cisterns, water filters, and ice and water dispensers.
-
Drain and refill hot-water tanks if power or gas was lost for an extended period.
-
Run water softeners through a regeneration cycle.
The town said it is grateful to the community for its patience and for the support shown to crews during the event.
