Update - The owner of the vehicle the RCMP were searching for has been identified. RCMP have spoken with the driver and are no longer looking for information related to this vehicle.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Saskatchewan RCMP’s Major Crimes unit had a heavy presence in Weyburn over the weekend, following a shooting on Highway 39.

On Friday, September 12, around 8:00 p.m., two Weyburn women were travelling in a black Ford Explorer SUV on Highway 39 when a large crack was heard. Upon investigation, it was determined that a firearm was discharged and entered the back of the SUV, striking the 44-year-old passenger, who died on scene.

The shooting appears to be random, and police are looking for more information as to what happened.

On Sunday, the RCMP announced that they were looking for the owner of a white truck that was parked on the side of Highway 39 around the time of the incident. They believed the truck could be another victim. However, the owner of the truck was identified, and there is no damage to the truck. It has been determined that this truck is not connected to the shooting in any way.

Another update came late Sunday night from the RCMP. They are now seeking the public’s help in identifying the owner and driver of a vehicle that was pulling a trailer south on Range Road 2151 northwest of Weyburn. This vehicle stopped at the intersection of Highway 39, between the Viterra and Richardson Pioneer terminals. The driver then turned northwest onto Highway 39, driving away from Weyburn. RCMP say they do not have more information on the vehicle but believe the owner or driver may have valuable information to assist their investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to reach out to the RCMP at 310-7267 (RCMP) or by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
