This past weekend, I had an invite to go out and play disc golf. I have never played it before, but I have thrown a frisbee. it's the same thing, right?

Wrong. Disc golf is not frisbee toss. The discs are much heavier, and unbeknownst to me, there's more than one kind of disc. There are lighter ones for different distances, heavier ones etc. Well, having never played before, I was expecting nothing. Except for the expectation that I'd be amazing at it right away. Seems logical, right?

Turns out, that is not a realistic expectation. Which makes sense, but any other sport I can think of, I absolutely do not assume I will be great at it right away. But disc golf? It's a frisbee. You throw it. Every kid has thrown a frisbee at some point, so this should just be a natural transition. Well, it turns out it is definitely more challenging than you think, especially when you're trying to throw HARD. One slight turn of the wrist the wrong way, that disc is GONE. And then you're basically starting over from no man's land.

Don't get me wrong, I had a great time. It was more about the time with friends and being with people you love than it is about being a masterful disc golf player. But I definitely expected more from myself in my first ever - never thrown a disc before in my life - debut into disc golf. Next match, I can only assume I'll par the course. Seems realistic, no?
