Two people are dead and a man is in custody following a serious collision on Friday night on Kenaston Boulevard.

Winnipeg police say a 31-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene and a 25-year-old woman later died in hospital after being struck by a pickup truck just before 9:30 p.m. on Sept. 13 near Enterprise Drive.

According to a Winnipeg Police Service news release, the truck had been travelling southbound at a high rate of speed when it drove onto the shoulder and hit the two pedestrians. Police allege that the driver did not remain at the scene.

Officers located a man nearby shortly after the crash and arrested him. Police say they had grounds to believe he was impaired.

A bicycle was found near the scene, and investigators are still working to determine what led up to the collision.

Kuldeep Singh Gill, 46, has been charged with:

  • Dangerous operation of a conveyance causing death (x2)
  • Operation of a conveyance causing death while impaired by alcohol, drug, or a combination (x2)
  • Failing to stop at the scene of an accident knowing or being reckless to whether it caused death (x2)

Gill remains in custody.

Police are asking anyone with information or dashcam footage from the area to contact the Traffic Division at 204-986-7085 or Crime Stoppers at 204-786-TIPS (8477), or online at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
