A member of the Swift Current Judo Club has been honoured with two prestigious provincial titles.

Swift Current's Blake Rempel received Most Improved Male Athlete of the Year and Runner-Up for U16 Male Athlete of the Year.

Nancy Filteau, the head instructor of the Swift Current Judo Club, has been impressed with Rempel's improvements over the past year.

"I see him as a hard-working individual," says Filteau. "I know he tries to go to the regional training [camps] in Saskatoon during the week and everything else whenever possible. He goes to as many camps as he can."

In addition to competing in judo tournaments across Canada, Rempel also helps officiate some tournaments in other areas as well.

"He helps referee some of the younger kids and has even been selected this year for the 2026 Sask Winter Games, which are going to be held in February in Meadow Lake," Filteau says.  "So that's kind of great that he's given back."

As for the rest of 2025, Rempel will be attending an inter-provincial camp in Vernon, B.C., at the end of September, as well as many tournaments in Manitoba and Ontario in November.
