The concrete surface of the Morden Spray Park will be much less slippery come the 2026 season
Categories

Alongside Lake Minnewasta and Colert beach, the spray park at Morden Park is also a popular way to stay cool during Summer. With the spray park shut down for the season, Mayor Nancy Penner says the city will be moving forward with some upgrades.

"I know there's been some concern of how slippery that surface gets when the water is on the surface, so in the next couple of weeks you might see some action happening there," she explained. "We're going to put a coating on the concrete surface. It's called a pour-in-place rubber coating, and this will greatly increase the safety of that surface. It will all be in place for next season, and I know a lot of parents and kids will welcome this improvement to the surface of the spray park."

Join the community effort to build a new playground

Just in the last week or so, we shared a story on PembinaValleyOnline regarding a group working together to raise $100,000 for playground equipment at a new park to be located near Westview Pembina Valley Child Care Centre. The city has agreed to provide the land for the park,  but it would be up to the community to raise money for a playground.

"There is a Morden Playground fundraising committee that's been organized, and this is just so exciting to see this happen within the community," noted Penner. "They're seeking some passionate neighbours, or interested volunteers, to join their efforts to bring this playground to their community. This is including the kids on the Wardrop, Manchester Street, and Dublin Drive neighbourhoods."

You can express your interest to help the committee, or make a donation, by reaching out to the group via email mordenplaygroundfund@gmail.com .

"If you're an individual or a business that would like to donate to their fund, the city will gladly issue a donation receipt for your contribution," she pointed out. "It's just so exciting we're seeing some citizens taking the lead to fundraise for the playground structure to fill this space. We're just really behind them as they go forward with this project."
