Weyburn RCMP continue to investigate the fatal shooting of a woman on Highway 39 on Sept. 12, after a motorist reported gunshot damage to their SUV. Police are looking into whether the two incidents are connected.
The driver, who may have been following a Ford Explorer at the time, reported hearing two “pop” sounds similar to rocks hitting a windshield, although no damage was visible at the time. The following day, Sept. 13, the motorist noticed a flat tire.
The tire was later examined by the Regina RCMP Forensic Identification Section on Sept. 15 and determined to have been damaged by a gunshot. Investigators confirmed the SUV had been travelling a short distance behind the Ford Explorer, passed it, and continued toward Weyburn.
RCMP said the driver was unaware of the shooting involving the Explorer at the time, did not report any injuries, and does not know the occupants of the vehicle.

The woman was a passenger in a black Ford Explorer on Highway 39 when a firearm was discharged, striking her in the back. She died at the scene. Police say the shooting appears to be random.
Investigators have identified the owners and drivers of a white truck and a vehicle towing a trailer in the area, and neither is connected to the incident.
RCMP are asking anyone with dash cam, doorbell, or surveillance footage along Highway 39 into Weyburn and Highway 13 between 7:45 and 8:30 p.m. on Sept. 12 to come forward.
Insp. Ashley St. Germaine thanked the public for information already provided and said additional footage or observations could help bring answers for the victim’s family and community.
