Pam Anderson, regional coordinator for Central Plains with the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, outlines an upcoming opportunity for residents to learn about the latest in dementia research. The society is hosting a viewing party on Thursday, September 18, at the Herman Prior Activity Centre in Portage la Prairie. The event runs from 7 to 8:30 p.m. and will feature a live-streamed presentation from Winnipeg.

Dr. Donald Weaver, who has presented on dementia research for several years, will return by popular demand. The session gives the public a chance to hear directly from an expert and ask questions about the latest findings.

“It's really the public's chance to ask this expert any questions about dementia research,” notes Anderson.

Focus on progress and future research

The presentation will review recent progress in dementia research over the past year, while also outlining what researchers hope to achieve in the months ahead.

“He's been doing this for a number of years,” says Anderson. “What I understand is that it's kind of talking about what kind of research has happened over the last year and what they're kind of looking forward to doing over the next year.”

Free event with registration required

Admission to the event is free, but registration is required. Anderson says participants can sign up online or by phone.

“It's a free event. Registration is required, and you can do that just on our website or by phoning me directly,” adds Anderson.

The Alzheimer Society website is alzheimer.mb.ca. Those interested can also call Anderson directly at 204-239-4898 for assistance with registration.
