The Village of Roche Percee has taken a lighthearted approach to some unusual happenings around town, with Mayor Jay Riedel weaving humor into recent coyote sightings.

Riedel explained that the village has faced a series of puzzling incidents, ranging from odd speed readings on traffic signs to strange discoveries like anvils, Acme boxes, and even a giant magnet. “We’ve had a few issues here through the years, and we just really couldn’t put our finger on what was going on,” he said. “So now we’ve put some cameras out and lo and behold, we keep finding this coyote out here.”

According to the mayor, the cameras have captured unusual images, including a coyote on roller skates with rockets attached. “Now we know what’s going on here, so we’re trying to alleviate the problem, but I guess we’ll just have to play around and see if we can catch them and give them a good stern talking to,” Riedel joked.

While the story carries plenty of playful references to cartoon antics, Riedel confirmed that coyotes are occasionally spotted in the area. “It hasn’t been too bad lately, but we’ll deal with it as it comes,” he said, noting that residents should contact the village office if they see any coyotes nearby.

The mayor added that keeping things lighthearted helps bring the community together. “We just try and keep the humor up. I think eventually the ruggeroos will probably get to the bottom of it, and I think we’ll be in good shape.”
