Moose Jaw residents are invited to take part in the city’s second Community Clean Up Day of the year, happening Saturday, September 20, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Organized by the City’s Community Clean Up Committee, the event encourages individuals and groups to help clear litter from parks, trails, neighborhoods, and other public spaces before winter arrives.

“This is the first time we've done a fall cleanup,” said city council representative on the committee, Heather Eby. “Last year we planned it, and then the weather didn’t cooperate. We’re hoping this year we can get ahead of the snow and make a difference.”

Participants can register at the Purposed Financial parking lot (81 Athabasca Street W), where garbage bags and gloves will be provided. A city map will be available to help volunteers choose which area they’d like to clean. Groups of 10 or more are asked to email cleanup@moosejaw.ca in advance.

After the cleanup, volunteers are invited to enjoy a free barbecue sponsored by Moose Jaw Co-op from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

“It’s a great opportunity for sports teams, school groups, and community organizations to do something good for the city—and maybe get in a little team building while they’re at it,” Eby added.

Residents are encouraged to share their efforts on social media using the hashtag #CleanUpMJ.
