Westminster United Church is once again affirming its commitment to reconciliation and education by hosting a community-wide Truth and Reconciliation Day event on Sunday, September 28th at 10:45 a.m., in partnership with the City’s Department of Cultural Services and Culture Days.

The day will begin with a community walk from Civic Park to the front lawn of Westminster United Church, marking a symbolic gesture of solidarity and respect for Indigenous communities. Following the walk, attendees will be treated to a special cultural performance by Terrence Littletent, an internationally renowned traditional hoop and grass dancer.

“This event is about creating space for learning, listening, and honoring Indigenous culture,” said Chris Harrow, a member of the Westminster United Church Affirm Team. “We’re inviting the entire community to come together, not just to observe the day, but to participate in something meaningful.”

Following the performance, all are welcome to gather in the Church Hall for a shared meal featuring traditional Indigenous cuisine, including Three Sisters Soup and Bannock. The food, donated by the local Co-op, is offered free of charge to all guests.

“All activities and food are completely free,” Harrow emphasized. “This is a day of reflection, community, and action—and we want everyone to feel welcome, supported, and nourished.”

The event is made possible through Culture Days funding, with additional support from Saskatchewan Culture and Sask Lotteries. Organizers encourage attendees to wear orange in recognition of Orange Shirt Day and the ongoing efforts toward reconciliation with Indigenous peoples in Canada.

“This is just one way we as a church and as a community can walk the path of reconciliation together,” added Harrow. “We hope to see many new and familiar faces joining us on the 28th.”
