A south Calgary community is rallying after a fire destroyed two homes over the weekend.

The Calgary Fire Department responded to reports of a fire in Seton around 9:25 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 13.

Two townhomes, each with a basement suite, were fully engulfed. According to the Calgary Firefighters Association, about a dozen people were displaced.

One person was treated for smoke inhalation, and a dog died inside one of the homes.

"This is one of Calgary’s furthest southeast neighbourhoods with very tight lot lines. A fire can jump from one house to three in minutes," the association said in a Facebook post. "That’s why every second matters, and why your Calgary firefighters need the right tools and staffing to protect you."

In the Seton, Calgary Community Facebook group, HOA resident director Steven Phan shared information about the affected families, along with a link to a GiveSendGo page that's been set up for them.

"In times like this, Seton shows its true strength. Let’s come together to support our neighbours through this difficult time," the post reads.

Additionally, A&W in Auburn Bay is hosting a fundraiser, where $2 from every combo sold on Sept. 18 will be donated to the affected families.
