The Western Development Museum (WDM) is gearing up for a busy and exciting fall season, with events that offer something for everyone—from free admission days to spooky Halloween fun. Programs and Volunteer Coordinator Alexis Jones shared what’s coming up across the WDM’s four locations, including Moose Jaw.
BMO Day – September 27
In partnership with the Bank of Montreal, WDM is offering free admission on Saturday, September 27, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at all four museum locations across Saskatchewan. This initiative helps remove financial barriers and encourages everyone to explore Saskatchewan’s rich history. At the Moose Jaw location, visitors can enjoy a special “Wants vs. Needs” seek-and-find activity, designed to spark conversations around financial literacy.
Seek-and-Find Activities – October
October brings two themed seek-and-find experiences:
- Black Cat Hunt: A Halloween tradition where visitors search for 13 black cat image cards hidden throughout the galleries, celebrating spooky superstitions. Running October 1 - 31
- Music Through the Ages: Launching on October 1 until the 31, in celebration of International Music Day, this new activity invites guests to discover music-related artifacts—such as record players and cassette tapes—and match them to the decade they belong to.
Fire Prevention Week – October 5
To mark Fire Prevention Week (October 5–11), WDM Moose Jaw is hosting a special event on Sunday, October 5, from 1 to 3 p.m. Visitors can meet local firefighters, explore fire safety tips, and even sit inside a modern ladder truck from the museum’s operating collection. Kids can enjoy coloring sheets, buttons, and hands-on learning.
