The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings found themselves down early in their game Saturday night against the Notre Dame Hounds. They would put the pressure on, especially in the late stages of the game, but ultimately fell 6-2.

Two of the bright spots of the game for the Red Wings was the performance of two recent additions to the lineup. Ethan Clements, skating in his second game for the Red Wings, scored his first goal as a Wing and added an assist. Mi-Kwan Tallman, playing in his first game with the Wings, finished the night with a pair of assists.

The Hounds opened up the scoring in the first period when Will Dawson got the puck past Jackson Fellner on the power play just 8:34 into the game. The goal was then followed by another power play goal from the Hounds with 57 seconds left to play as Oliver Band scored.

Weyburn would answer early in the second period as Ty Mason notched his fourth of the season. The goal, scored 2:47 into the period, was assisted by Tallman and Clements.

The one-goal difference wouldn’t last the period, though, as the Hounds scored a pair of goals 17 seconds apart. The first was by Antoine St-Onge at 11:22 of the period, then Dawson scored his second of the night at 11:39.

In the third period, Notre Dame opened the lead up to 5-1 when Kevin Anderson found the back of the net at the 6:03 mark.

The Red Wings would get one more back in the final minutes of the game when Clements scored with 3:37 to go in the period. The power play marker was assisted by Tallman and Nicholas Kovacs.

Notre Dame would score another power play goal with 1:27 remaining in the game as Band scored his second of the match-up.

The Hounds would finish the night going 3-for-3 on the power play, while Weyburn ended the game going 1-for-6 with the man advantage. Notre Dame would also lead on the shot clock, as they finished the night with 40 shots on Fellner. Weyburn put 29 shots on Hounds netminder Austin Elliott.

The Red Wings will be back in action Sunday night when they travel to Wilcox for a rematch against the Hounds. You can catch all the action on Red Wing Radio BIG106, starting with the pregame show at 7:15 p.m.
