Local electrician and father, Dallas Burnett looking for something to do during the COVID lockdowns began a photography hobby alongside his daughter, Bailey. In an effort to create some father-daughter bonding time, the two of them would hop in his truck and go for a drive to scout out wildlife in Weyburn and the area. As a result of their bonding time, the two have created some spectacular professionally-looking photos.

“It started a couple of years ago, it started with birds, we set up a bird feeder in our back yard, and we kept it well stocked and I was just amazed at all the birds that showed up,” said Burnett. “We had blue jays, woodpeckers, doves, grosbeaks, we even had a great horned owl staying in our backyard for a couple of months last year.”

“We had birds and wildlife we never knew we had in Weyburn showing up, so I started taking pictures of them all,” shared Burnett. “Then we started venturing and seeing what else around town had to offer.”

“It’s been a COVID hobby, we couldn’t get out to do other things, what better way to isolate than to just to drive around in the truck all day?” shared Burnett.

The hobby continued to grow, and eventually, Burnett purchased a drone to take some aerial photos in the area.

“It’s grown into quite a hobby in the last couple of years,” said Burnett. “There’s lots of abandoned buildings and sunsets and cool buildings around town that are nice to take pictures of.”

“I had to start a Facebook page and an Instagram just to have someplace to keep them so I can least look back on them,” explained Burnett.

Burnett’s social media accounts are proving to be well received with area residents, in just one year his Facebook page has well over 500 followers and his Instagram account has over 900 followers.

“I guess it just shows that there’s lots of stuff to see around Weyburn, if you look at my pictures there’s lots of cool, beautiful things to see,” shared Burnett. “Some people think we live on the prairies and it's just drab and dull, but there’s lots of beautiful things to see if you just take the time to look.”
