The Richardson Pioneer Weyburn Red Wings welcomed the Flin Flon Bombers to Crescent Point Place Saturday night, looking to end their eight-game losing streak. Weyburn would come out of the gate, putting a lot of pressure on the Bombers in the first few moments of the game. However, a span of one minute and 48 seconds changed the entire momentum of the game, and the Bombers would go on to a 6-0 victory.

In an extremely rare situation, the Red Wings were assessed two minor penalties at the same time from two separate plays on the ice at the 4:47 mark of the opening frame. One was a tripping call against defenseman Blake Norris as he tried to break up a breakaway opportunity, and the other was on forward Simon Pollock from something that the officials stated happened behind the play moments earlier, but no one was aware of as there was no signal from either referee until after the penalty against Norris was called.

The Bombers would capitalize on the power plays, with Jaeden Mercier scoring seven seconds in, and then Zak Smith scoring moments later, putting Flin Flon up 2-0. Then, an even-strength goal from Jacob Vockler made it a 3-0 game.

Early in the third period, Jaxon Martens would score for the Bombers, putting them up 4-0. This goal would also end the night for Weyburn starting goaltender Jackson Fellner, as Dazza Mitchell came on to replace him.

The Red Wings weren’t short on their own opportunities in the game, though.

They would put 31 shots on Flin Flon’s Call Schell, many of the quality scoring chances, only to have the goaltender turn aside everything thrown at him.

Meanwhile, the Red Wings found themselves taking a number of penalties, giving up nine power plays in the game, with Flin Flon capitalizing on four of them. The final two power-play goals came in the third period as Rylan Thiessen scored with 9:05 left on the clock, and then former Red Wing Drew Kuzma scored with 1:08 left in the game.

With the loss, the Red Wings are now winless in their past nine games. They will look to end the streak Tuesday night as they welcome the Melville Millionaires to Crescent Point Place.
