Leadership from the Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) is once again encouraging those who haven’t already to get vaccinated as this will be the last week for large-scale clinics.
“We have walk-in clinics happening this week in Kenora, Fort Frances, and Red Lake. Information on the specific locations and times of the clinics can be found on our website. Anyone eligible for a first, second, or booster dose can attend our walk-in clinics,” Dr. Kit Young Hoon, Medical Officer of Health for the NWHU.
For those that haven’t gotten their third dose, Young Hoon explains the easy process.
“Guidelines have changed and you only have to wait five minutes after getting your booster shot, which means getting boosted will only take a few minutes of your time but can help prevent you from taking many days off work due to symptomatic infection.”
Young Hon explained that over 80 per cent of those aged 70 and older have received their third dose, and over 73 per cent over the age of 50 has gotten theirs.
As of Tuesday 90.4 per cent of all ages has gotten at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, 82.4 per cent are fully vaccinated, and 46.0 per cent of the region has gotten their booster dose.
Throughout the pandemic 178,030 doses of the vaccine have been administered.

Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at Seven Generations Education (240 Veterans Drive) from 12:00-2:30 p.m., and then again from 4:00-5:30 p.m.

Red Lake
Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Super 8 (11 Hughes Crescent) from 12:30-4:00 p.m.
First doses:
- Anyone aged 5+ in 2022 can get the first dose
Second doses:
- Anyone aged 5+ in 2022 can get their second dose if they received:
- Pfizer at least 21 days ago or Moderna 28 days ago,
- Or AstraZeneca at least 56 days ago.
Third Doses:
- If second dose was at least 12 weeks or 84 days ago):
- Anyone aged 18 and over (on the date of their appointment)
- First Nation, Inuit, and Métis adults and their family/household members 16+
- People with certain medical conditions or who are on specific medications who had their second dose at least 8 weeks (56 days) ago.
Fourth doses:
- If third dose was at least 84 days ago):
- Residents of long-term care homes
- Residents of retirement homes
- Residents of Elder care lodges
- Older adults living in other congregate settings providing assisted-living and health services
- People with certain conditions or taking certain medications. More information can be found here.
- Those with eligible conditions or on eligible medications must either provide a referral form from their health care provider or bring a prescription bottle with the medication and patient name listed on it.
