The COVID-19 outbreak at Sioux Lookout’s Meno Ya Win Health Centre is now over.
The outbreak was declared in the south wing of the inpatient unit on January 26. It was identified after two patients tested positive for COVID-19 within 14 days, which fell under the outbreak definition provided by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
It’s now been declared over, after 10 days of now new positive cases related to the outbreak.
“By utilizing our dedicated COVID-19 isolation unit and expanding infection control measures within the hospital, our outbreak management team acted quickly to see this outbreak contained in a short period of time,” says Heather Lee, President and CEO of SLMHC.
“We want to take this time to remind the public to continue practicing public health guidelines get vaccinated, wear a mask and be safe.” Lee adds that patients will not be turned away if they are not fully vaccinated.
The hospital adds that visitor restrictions have been partially lifted at this time, meaning many measures are still in place for the foreseeable future.
They include pausing general visits, essential visitors need proof-of-vaccination, staff will be performing COVID-19 screening at all entrances, staff must be vaccinated, everyone must wear a hospital-issued medical mask and the cafeteria is open to take-out only.
