James Kenneth Clarke

JULY 7, 1944 – FEBRUARY 15, 2022

CLARKE, James Kenneth July 7, 1944 - February 15, 2022

We are shocked and saddened by the sudden death of Jim. His family was everything to him and he so missed his sons in BC when he was kept from travelling to them due to COVID.

His was an outward thinking mind that took joy in meeting new faces and giving all he encountered his undivided attention, his sense of humour, and by nature encompassed them in his warm and engaging manner. Because of this Jim got himself into the thick of projects. He took part in the Skills Development Committee and the cross country ski trail development at Mount Evergreen. He was chairman of the LOTW District Hospital Board and a member of the Heritage Committee. This was his form of dedication to community. In all instances he brought his expertise to the fore or, lack thereof, just offered to pick up a shovel and help move things along. He was not a half full kind of person. His sunny disposition and engaging personality came forth in his discussion about books and articles he’d read and he wanted feedback and interaction and maybe even challenge. He was never one to back down from an opposing point of view.

He was a proud Canadian as well as a proud American. His travels took him to far flung adventures and he learned that you could travel with your family, anywhere, and he loved it.

It is a rare thing to move through life’s challenges and hold dear to the positive, but that describes Jim perfectly. As he struggled with Parkinson’s disease he did not give in to it; instead he challenged every step of it and won on his own terms.

Diane, Kris and Michelle, Brett and Kyra will keep the memories close and his warm heart will keep us moving forward.

He has chosen cremation and there will be no planned event but he would have liked to tell you that one person can help to build a community. Think about getting involved in your community and grow it with a passion.
