Klim Georgiev, Garrett Hrechka and Mathew Rathbone scored first period goals as the Dauphin Kings defeated the Steinbach Pistons 5-2 Wednesday night at Credit Union Place. The Kings evened the Manitoba Junior Hockey League's best-of-seven final for the Turnbull Trophy at two games apiece. The Pistons cut the deficit to 3-2 thanks to second-period goals by Quinton Pepper and Zac Patrick. Nakodan Greyeyes and Jeriah Shantz added third-period goals for Dauphin. Game five is Friday night at the T.G. Smith Centre and game six will be back at Credit Union Place on Sunday.


Winnipeg Goldeyes training camp begins today. The Goldeyes are scheduled to play four pre-season games, all of which will be hosted at Shaw Park. The Goldeyes face Black Sox Professional Baseball this Saturday and Sunday. The Black Sox are a barnstorming club made of current and former professionals that travels to various independent league training camps. The games allow host teams to face pro-caliber competition as they prepare for the upcoming season, while Black Sox players benefit from showcasing their abilities in front of top independent league managers. Winnipeg hosts the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks in exhibition games on Tuesday, May 10th and Wednesday, May 11th. The Goldeyes will open the 2022 American Association season against the RedHawks on Friday, May 13th.


Provincial champions Jordon McDonald and Zoey Terrick have 2-2 records heading into the final day of round-robin play at the Canadian U18 Curling Championships in Oakville, Ontario. Grace Beaudry is 2-3 and Ryan Ostrowsky is 1-3.


The Winnipeg Blue Bombers signed wide receiver Keyion Dixon, defensive end Inoke Moala and 2021 CFL Draft pick, defensive back Patrice Rene. Dixon comes to the Blue Bombers after a four-year career with the Eastern Kentucky Colonels. In 2020, Dixon led the Colonels in catches and yards in 2019 and 2020 while finding the endzone seven times in that two-year span. Moala recorded 122 total tackles, 15 sacks, and a team-high 8 passes defended at Indiana State and was named to the 2021 MVFC First Team All-Conference. Rene was originally selected 21st overall by Winnipeg in the 2021 CFL Draft. The Ottawa native spent his senior season of 2021 at Rutgers, after the first five collegiate years of his career at North Carolina. In 2021, he played in five games at Rutgers, with two starts at corner, recording eight tackles.
