Residents in the unorganized Kenora area now have sandbags available to them with the extremely high water levels in the area.
The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry says they’re continuing to monitor the situation, and will be providing sandbags at the ministry’s Kenora office at 808 Robertson Street. Sand will not be available, however.
Those receiving sandbags may be asked to provide identification to ensure that resources are being distributed appropriately.
The ministry says for those in organized areas, you’re asked to contact the City of Kenora for support. NDMNRF has also set up a call line for those impacted by high water levels or to provide information - the contact number is (807) 468-2501.
On May 3, 2022, the NDMNRF issued a Watershed Conditions Statement - Flood Outlook for the Kenora, Sioux Narrows-Nestor Falls, Dryden, Oxdrift, and surrounding areas until May 13, 2022.
They advise residents exercise extreme caution around less travelled roads, bridges, water-crossings, lakes, and rivers. They say that water levels in these areas and in portions of the district are extremely high.
