A new initiative between two community organizations will help to provide free childcare services while a parent receives free dental work.
The Northwestern Health Unit and the Kenora District Services Board are announcing new services through the KDSB’s Early ON child centre and the NWHU’s dental clinic that are now available at their building at 20 King Street.
The downtown location will provide free dental services for eligible NWHU clients, with publicly funded programs for people of all ages. As well, trained EarlyON staff will be available to provide child supervision as required.
“Poor oral health impacts quality of life. Missing teeth and oral pain can affect speech, what foods we are able to eat, how we socialize, our employability and our ability to attend school or work,” explains Dawn Sauvé, Manager of Dental Health at NWHU.
“Our services help to improve the quality of life by treating existing dental problems and helping to prevent future issues. If you can’t afford dental care, contact us to see if we can help,” says Sauvé.

20 King Street is the site of the former Central Hotel, which was torn down in 2020. The building had stood since 1898 when it was known as the Sheane Boarding House.
