Environment Canada is saying residents should enjoy the sunshine while it lasts on Tuesday (May 17, 2022), as they are predicting more rain and cloudy conditions for the rest of the week.

Meteorologist Gerald Cheng is saying that an unsettled pattern of weather is making its way to the region starting Tuesday night (May 17, 2022).

“Starting tonight there is already a chance of showers, and there will certainly be more showers on Wednesday, and right now we’re looking at 10-20 millimetres,” says Cheng. “There is more rain to come especially starting Thursday night (May 19, 2022) into Friday, and again could be looking at another 20 mm.”

There is also a chance of thunderstorms that will join the rain, and Cheng adds that people should keep their eyes on the sky, and also be aware of their surroundings to avoid injury.

As the region is currently in a historic flooding season, and the area doesn’t need any more moisture, Environment Canada says that the region won’t get any reprieve from the rain until this weekend.

“We do need to get through the next three days Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday before we get out of this wet trend at least for a little bit. After that, we do have some high pressure in place.”

Though a high-pressure system is in the forecast for the end of the weekend, Cheng couldn’t confidently predict how much sunshine the area will see.
