Rising river and lake levels have prompted the province to declare a state of local emergency for Whiteshell Provincial Park.
It was also announced yesterday that the Betula Lake area will be closed.
Manitoba Parks has ordered the evacuation of Whiteshell Provincial Park’s Betula Lake area, including all cottage subdivisions, commercial area, group use, day use, recreational and picnic areas, playgrounds, trails and beaches.
“During this time, no person should reside in or enter the Betula Lake closure area of the park,” reads the statement issued by Manitoba Parks. “All persons within the closure area may be issued evacuation notice to vacate no later than 5pm CST on May 21, 2022.”
Residents in areas near Betula Lake should be prepared to evacuate due to rapidly rising water levels.
PR 307 between Betula Lake and White Lake and PR 312 near Caddy Lake are closed.
The province reports that Manitobans should not travel into the Whiteshell Provincial Park area. Many highways are flooded, making travel conditions treacherous.
Manitobans travelling to other provincial parks are reminded to carefully check and monitor conditions before visiting.
Park visitors are reminded to obey road and trail closures and not attempt to drive through flooded areas or across damaged bridges.
