The Flood Warning that was set to expire on May 23, 2022, for the Red Lake district, has been extended to June 3, 2022, by the Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources, and Forestry.

The ministry’s definition of a Flood Warning is: flooding is imminent or occurring within specific watercourses and municipalities.

Residents in the Red Lake, Suffel Lake, Dixie Lake, Longlegged Lake, Pakwash Lake, Chukuni River, Coli Lake, Berens Lake, and English River watersheds, and surrounding areas throughout the district should exercise extreme caution around less travelled roads, bridges, water-crossings, lakes, rivers, and areas of high runoff potential, as water levels in portions of the district are high.

Water levels may continue to rise throughout the coming days due to the precipitation received.

These water levels could lead to road and shoreline property damage. Residents are advised to secure shoreline structures such as boats and docks, among other items/structures.

The Ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions and will provide further updates as they become available.
