Two weekends ago, the U13A Ice girls, the reigning provincial champs who never lost a division tournament last year and only lost 2 “nothing” games by 1 point each last season, played in their locally hosted U15B tournament.

They went 3-0 in the round robin mercying all three teams (MJ Havoc 13-5, Twin City Angels 13-1 and Delisle Diamond Dogs 21-6) to make the playoff round. In the semis, they met up with the MJ Blazers and mercy’d them 10-1.

Then they played the Medicine Hat Thunder in the final. The Thunder were up 4-0 in the 4th and the Moose Jaw Ice were just starting to hit off their 2nd pitcher when a Medicine Hat fan collapsed and had a seizure. The fan was OK in the end but by the time the ambulance came and we dealt with that situation, we decided to call the game and give Medicine Hat the gold medals.

The two teams may play again in July as it was a close match up to that point.

Two weeks prior to this tournament, the Ice played a double header in Swift Current against the Swift Current Sonic, the defending U14B Provincial gold medalists, where we came up short 8-7 in a very exciting game and then the Gravelbourg Lightning, the U14B Provincial bronze medalists from last year, who the Ice managed to beat 10-7.

In May, the Ice played only U15B teams and managed a record of 5-2 and a silver medal finish at the Moose Jaw U15B tournament.

This past weekend, The Ice went to Prince Albert to defend their gold medal finish last year in the first Shaye Admundson Memoral Tournament.

The girls beat the Melfort Spirit Saturday morning 6-1, and then mercy’d the Prince Albert Aces 13-0 in the afternoon and the Twin City Angels 11-3 in the evening game.

The Ice came out flat against the Meadow Lake Sox in the 8 am game Sunday morning and spotted them six runs in the first two innings but battled back to tie them before time ran out. A 8-8 tie secured the Ice's spot in the 2:30 pm final. Moose Jaw met up with the 4-0 Regina Saints in that final and mercy’d them in five innings 12-5 to repeat as gold medal champions.

Our next action is a tournament in Minot, North Dakota in two weeks.
