Rain delays, walks and wild pitches could be the best way to describe the night for the Weyburn Beavers Saturday for the Weyburn Beavers. They would see their game in Moose Jaw interrupted by rain, which delayed the game for around an hour. The Beavers would be walked a total of 12 times over the course of the game, with two batters hit by a pitch and two wild pitches from Moose Jaw pitchers all helping to an 8-4 victory.
The Beavers actually jumped out to a 7-0 lead after the top of the sixth inning before the Miller Express started to answer back. The home side added a run in their half of the sixth inning, and three more in the bottom of the eighth to get to the 8-4 final.
Weyburn slugger Nolan Machibroda would be walked an astounding five times in the game, none intentional, only recording one hit which came in the eighth inning.
Konner McLellin and Will Baker were steady at the plate as well, with both finishing the game with three hits.
On the mound, Jared Eifler would get the start, pitching the first two innings before the rain delay put a damper on things. Eifler finished up his shortened stint allowing one hit, while striking out one and walking one. John Nicholson came on after the delay, and went 3 2/3 innings, surrendering one run on three hits, while striking out two.
Matthew Armendariz would pitch for 2 1/3 innings, striking out two and allowing three runs on three hits. Braeden Cordes finished the game off, striking out one in the bottom of the ninth inning.
The Beavers are back at it Sunday afternoon as they entertain the Regina Red Sox at Tom Laing Park. The last meeting between the two clubs was a 1-0 win for the Beavers. The Red Sox are coming off a 12-1 loss to the Edmonton Prospects Saturday afternoon.
